Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912) was a British composer and conductor, best known for his choral cantatas, collectively titled The Song of Hiawatha. He was descended from African-American slaves, and composed a number of works that were inspired by African music. Un Sonnet d'Amour is taken from his Petite Suite de Concert, Op. 77, composed around 1911. It is a delightful miniature, in a salon style. This is an arrangement for chamber ensemble, a small orchestra that suits the lightness of the piece.
Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Triangle, Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello, Double Bass (11 players). More strings can be used if preferred.
