Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921) was a Ukrainian composer, conductor and teacher. He composed numerous choral works inspired by Ukrainian folk music, including 'Shchedryk' from around 1916. It was a song about the New Year that subsequently became the 'Carol of the Bells' in an English translation. This short organ piece of around 2 minutes is based on the four note motif, and it develops the theme across various keys and moods, ending in a joyful character. It was composed for Anna Lapwood's UK Christmas organ tour in 2025.
