Lili Boulanger (1893-1918) was born into a highly musical French family, showing huge talent at a young age. She won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1913, the first woman to receive the prize. Lili had often suffered poor health, and despite finding great energy to continue composing, she died in 1918 at the age of 24. D'un matin de printemps was originally composed for violin and piano in 1917, before orchestrating it. The piece is highly colourful and energetic, with advanced modern harmony and lush orchestration. This arrangement is for a chamber orchestra of around 25 players.
