Émile Waldteufel (1837-1915) was a well-known composer and conductor of orchestral dance music, who had a successful career around Europe with his waltzes and polkas. Les Patineurs (The Ice Skaters) is a waltz that was written in 1882. It was inspired by the ice skaters at the Bois de Boulogne rink in Paris and has become Waldteufel's most well-known piece.
