Johann Strauss II (1825 – 1899) was known in his lifetime as “The Waltz King”, who composed a vast number of dances, as well as operettas and ballet. Im Krapfenwald'l (In Krapfen's Woods) is a polka that was written in 1869. It refers to the Krapfenwald area of the Wienerwald located in the scenic village of Grinzing near Vienna. There are various bird whistles in the music, perhaps referring to the Viennese Woods setting.
Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Harp, 2 Percussion (timpani, whistle, cuckoo whistle, snare drum), Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass (15 players)
