Johann Strauss II (1825 – 1899) was known in his lifetime as “The Waltz King”, who composed a vast number of dances, as well as operettas and ballet. Kaiser-Walzer (Emperor Waltz) was composed in 1889, to mark the 40th anniversary of the crowning of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I, and his friendship with the German Emperor Wilhelm II. After a march introduction, there is a sequence of elegant waltzes. This arrangement aims to create a full orchestral picture from a smaller ensemble, and is the complete work without cuts.
Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Harp, 2 Percussion (timpani, snare drum), Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass (15 players)
