Arranged for chamber ensemble
Ruth Crawford Seeger (1901-1953) was an American composer who became a major figure in American folk music. She composed much modernist avant-garde music, before turning to folk music in the late 1930s. Rissoly Rossolty was composed in 1940-41 for Alan Lomax’s folk music radio program, The Wellsprings of America. It uses three American folk songs: Rissolty Rissolty, Phoebe and The Death of Callahan. These themes are combined and explored in a lively, enjoyable and ingenious manner.
