Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) was one of the most well-known German composers in the early Romantic period. He composed his Hebrides Overture in 1830, as a direct response to a visit to Staffa Island in Scotland, with its remarkable sea cave known as Fingal's Cave. The piece is an impression of the location, without a specific programme. This arrangement is for chamber orchestra.
