Max Bruch (1838-1920) was a prolific German composer, conductor and violinist who composed in a Romantic style. His first Violin Concerto, Op. 26, was composed in 1866, subsequently revised with the great violinist Joseph Joachim. The work became hugely popular in Bruch's lifetime, overshadowing his other two violin concertos and symphonic works. It continues to be well-loved by musicians and audiences, with its soaring melodies, virtuoso violin writing and rich harmony. This arrangement is for chamber orchestra and is the complete work unabridged.
Instrumentation: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, timpani, solo violin, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass (minimum 2, 2, 2, 2, 1)
