Farrington - Heatwave (flute, oboe, piano)
For flute, oboe and piano
'Heatwave' explores the contrasting feelings of a sweltering hot day, in three movements. The first movement, 'Hot heads', depicts the tense, stressful atmosphere caused by stifling heat. The music is spiky, with ever-changing time signatures. 'Siesta' has a sultry, lazy and passionate mood, although a chilly breeze briefly passes through the scene. Finally, 'Scorcher' captures some of the fun and energy of an outdoor get-together, with the players having the freedom to ‘improvise’ their part. The work's total duration is approximately 12 minutes.
