Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) composed his Sicilienne as an orchestral piece for a production of Moliere's play Le Bourgeois gentilhomme. Faure subsequently reworked the piece for cello and piano, before it was included as incidental music for a production of Maeterlincks' play Pélleas et Mélisande. It perfectly embodies Fauré's style: a wistful melody, distinctive harmony, and a delicate lightness of texture. This arrangement is scored for the same instrumentation as Ravel's Introduction and Allegro.
Instrumentation: flute, clarinet, harp, violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello (7 players)
Includes full score and complete set of parts
