Johann Sebastian Bach composed The Musical Offering in 1747, after a meeting with King Frederick of Prussia. It is a series of pieces based on a theme that Bach was given by the King on which to improvise. The Ricercar a 6 is a fugue in six voices, and this arrangement for clarinet, violin, cello and piano is simple and unadorned, without added dynamics or articulation.
