Arranged for solo piano and soprano soloist
Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) completed his Fourth Symphony in 1900, and conducted the work’s premiere in Munich on 25th November 1901. The symphony’s final movement is a song written and orchestrated in 1892, using a text from Des Knaben Wunderhorn. This version by Iain Farrington of the complete Symphony for piano solo presents the beauty and power of the score in a clear, playable arrangement. The vocal line in the final movement is presented here as in the original, with the piano accompaniment closely based on Mahler’s 1892 setting for piano. This movement was recorded by Mahler himself on a Welte-Mignon piano roll in November 1905.
